Ghouls
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
On the outside Ghouls have the same physical make up as the humanoids and have blended well within their society for many years. The main difference that makes them stand out is their eyes. Ghouls eyes are black with a red iris with vine like vain running through it depending on their level of hunger. When they manifest their power a red mist-like substance forms around them pulsing in time with their hearts. The area of this mist will vary from ghoul to ghoul and varies greatly depending on which bloodline the ghoul is from and how long it has been since they last ate. Some like to keep this on show all the time as a show of power but most do not as it is draining.
HISTORY
Ghouls would consider themselves top of the food-chine though they are far outnumbered by the homosapien species. The first ghoul came into being by accident and they have been multiplying ever since. As a species Ghouls originate from the Hokkaido region in Japan, where a warlock accidentally blew up his village in the late Kofun period. It was originally thought that all in the village had perished but three days after the accident a red mist seemed to envelope the local temple were the bodies of the victims lay in waiting. The mist entered the cadavers and reanimated them much to the surprise of the temple monks. The villagers woke with a hunger for human flesh could not eat anything that would have been considered "human food" without being violently ill. They soon consumed the monks that resided in the temple and took their place.
For years no one knew what happened to the monks of the Gūru (グール) Temple, a legend had formed surrounding the Temple that kept many from going up there to look. Hooded figures dressed in dirty, ragged monks robes began to appear in the villages that surrounded the Temple and mysterious disappearances became a common occurrence. The towns folk began to refer to the figures simply as Gūru (Ghouls) after the Temple as they believed that the monks were cursed and the Temple no longer holy and was now inhabited by evil sprites.
As time passed the original Gūru bred and moved away from the Temple, spreading through out Japan and the world.
