About the Sidhe

A very long time ago, before humans had become civilized and when animals were still the dominant creatures, there was a different species that roamed the Earth. Assigned as protectors of nature, they were split into two groups: Seelie and Unseelie. The two groups were as different from each other as the aspects of nature they watched over, the Seelie being more formal and reserved and the Unseelie being more free-spirited; however, they shared a few similarities. They are all immortal, not aging past their maturity. They can all use magic that pertain to natural elements, and are faster and stronger than humans.

The Seelie court was ruled over by a powerful king who believed that the humans were a danger to all nature and wanted them contained to a specific area before they could completely destroy everything the Sidhe protected. Like the Seelie King, the Unseelie Queen didn't trust the humans, but instead of wanting them contained wanted to completely eradicate them. This began the major split of the two courts. Wars began to break out between the courts due to their differences in opinions, and eventually members of both courts decided to split off and form a neutral group to avoid the ongoing warfare that was killing so many of their kin. Eventually, they were so caught up in their hatred of each other that they completely neglected keeping an eye on the humans, who had become more civilized and began destroying nature in order to build their own cities, killing what sustained the ancient beings. As their homes became smaller and smaller both courts began to panic, trying to figure out a solution to this problem that they had allowed to fester. On top of this, dark forces were at work in the human world, ones that the Sidhe couldn’t predict and didn’t really want to deal with.

Eventually the Sidhe grew tired of the constant fighting and the threat of the humans and this unseen darkness on the very thing that sustained the place they called home, so the leaders of the Sidhe came together and created portals to a new home, which they called Ephilion, where their people wouldn't have to worry about any humans ruining everything they considered good about the world. The land was full of magic and nature, perfect for the nature spirits to tap into, governed by twin goddesses who took a particular liking to the Sidhe. As such the Sidhe grew a special connection with these two and so their worship continues to this day. Once in this land, the leaders used their powers to create a place that was perfect for their people to live and due to all the natural magic flowing through Ephilion this process didn’t take much time. They took and fashioned the forests and hills and rivers of the Seelie Court, the tundras, icy peaks, and frozen lakes of the Unseelie Court. Unfortunately, the creation of these portals and homes drained the rulers powers and after creating this new home, they faded away. Each court had their own portion of this territory, and their territories are separated from each other by a neutral territory where unaffiliated Sidhe, the ones who don't like authority and the half-Sidhe, make their homes. After the old rulers deaths, their children take over: Oberon ruling over the Seelie Court and Mab taking over the Unseelie Court, both extremely powerful rulers with explosive personalities. During this time, relationships between the two courts were frowned upon, and so Oberon took a Seelie wife, Titania, a powerful, red-haired Sidhe with a vicious streak; despite being married there was no love between them. Completely different from Oberon, Mab refused to share her throne, and as such would not take a husband, leaving her two children with no clue who their father was. Relations between the courts were very good for a long time, with Oberon and Mab both looking out for the good of their people. Titania was determined to undermine Queen Mab however, and after some time her jealousy led to small skirmishes between the courts in the neutral territory. Oberon and Mab met in order to dissolve the tension between their courts and nothing more was thought of the situation. Soon though, a new scandal came up: a Sidhe baby, with a Seelie and Unseelie parent. Relations between the courts was frowned upon and rare, and as such no one would claim the child, who was sent off into the forest with the other unwanted Sidhe in order to be raised.

Many years later, an unseen threat arose, Giants determined to overrun the Sidhe's perfect home. For the first time in centuries, both courts banded together in perfect harmony in order to defeat this threat. They were almost overrun, but once again their leaders banded together, and sacrificed themselves in order to save the people. With the majority of the Giants gone and after getting the help of a few dragons that understood their plight, the Sidhe were able to fend off the rest of the opposing force, Mab's two children and one mysterious Sidhe cooperating to lead the people to victory.

With the threat gone, the Seelie and Unseelie were determined to find new leaders. Because of that a new issue arose, with the Unseelie divided between which of Mab's children should take her place and the Seelie in turmoil due to Oberon and Titania not having any children at all. One of Mab's children was determined to be the new ruler, and resorted to nefarious means in order to guarantee her position. She was determined to do whatever it took to become Queen after her mother, even if that meant resorting to getting rid of her competition. However, she wasn't counting on a new discovery: another child, one that can take over both courts as this child belongs to both Mab and Oberon, with the powers of both revered rulers. Now this child is navigating the courts with ease and foiling all her plans, swaying the people to her side. Unfortunately the abuse of the portals between worlds allowed something through into their land, something that the goddess of Realms couldn’t stop.

All Sidhe are stronger and faster than humans, and have more endurance

Emotion Sight: Emotions appear as a colored field around the person that the Sidhe is targeting. The stronger the emotion, the brighter the color. _ shine the brightest, and so Sidhe are naturally drawn to them, while Vampires and other Sidhe appear far duller. (more info at bottom)

Mind Reading: Upon touch, a Sidhe can hear what someone is thinking and see their memories, starting from the most recent

All Sidhe have illusory magic which allows them to disguise themselves and others to exist peacefully among humans. This magic also extends to being able to make things appear as other things - a dress made out of leaves for example can be made to look like a beautiful gown

Any deal they enter is binding, neither party can get out of its terms unless both agree (never enter into a deal with a Sidhe, as they will trick you and it usually ends badly - not for the Sidhe)

Their magic comes from emotion and nature, and as such the closer they are to large groups of people or nature, the stronger they are

Other species from Earth can only enter their home realm if led by a Sidhe - this is forbidden unless under dire circumstances

Sidhe heal faster in their home realm, recovering from otherwise fatal wounds far quicker

All Sidhe have access to some form of magic, and the higher up the castes you are, the stronger your abilities**

The Seelie Sidhe have access to magic aligned with Spring and Summer. This is everything from making plants bloom to shooting fireballs to being able to control the very vegetation itself. King Oberon was known for his ability to shape the earth and transform into powerful forms in order to take down enemies.

The Unseelie Sidhe have access to magic aligned with Winter and Fall. They can control ice and snow, the frigid winds, and even the dark itself. They are responsible for the leaves changing color and Queen Mab was even said to be able to freeze dozens of warriors at once

The half Seelie half Unseelie are special in that they can have access to the powers of both courts. However their powers are at war within them, causing them to have extreme problems using their magic and it takes them a very long time to be able to master their powers because of this.

Their illusions are very powerful, and only other Sidhe and Dragons (this does not count the deities as they are NPCs) can see through them. The stronger the illusion, the harder to see through

** Not all Sidhe have access to all magic. Most only have one or two, such as Seelie being able to make plants bloom and control vines and Unseelie having control over ice and wind. Half Seelie Half Unseelie Sidhe are rare, and can have access to both courts' magic, but not all of them can use all types either and it’s harder for them to learn and control it




Sidhe are incapable of lying, and can only tell the truth (although they have become masters of only telling the part of the truth that benefits them)

As nature spirits, their lives are tied to the wellbeing of Ephilion. If something happens to the natural world their powers wane and eventually they will cease to exist entirely

Any deal a Sidhe enters into is binding, and must be fulfilled unless nullified by both parties (generally they can work the deal to their favor)

Sidhes are dangerously allergic to iron, being around it weakens them and can make them sick, while direct contact poisons and burns them (lead, steel, etc. doesn't poison them though it can make them sick in large enough amounts; gold and silver doesn't poison them) ((Since metals poison and burn them, the Sidhe use a special alloy for their weapons and armor that won't hurt them, more info on that in the Ephilion world tab))

Though immortal, any wound that would be fatal to a human is fatal to a Sidhe

All Sidhe have a True Name that they keep hidden, as the knowledge of it allows others to command them. As such all Sidhe go by a different name, and the revelation of their True Name is a sign of the utmost trust
